Construction site security tipsConstruction site security tips

Construction sites are highly susceptible to theft and vandalism, with expensive tools, materials, and machinery kept on site at all times.

Having the right security in place is vital to protecting both your workers and your business assets, but building an effective security strategy, and implementing it, is easier said than done.

Here are just a few key tips to keeping your construction site safe, saving your project time, money, and a whole lot of hassle, not to mention the most important task of keeping your staff safe.

We have been protecting construction sites up and down the UK for decades now, and in that time, we have seen almost every situation, location, and project type that you could possibly think of. From construction site CCTV to security guards, and everything in-between we have all the services that anyone in the construction industry could possibly need.

We also have a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw on, and in this article we will share some of the most useful tips and tricks you need to know.

Our top construction site security tips:

Create a plan

construction site security

Too many construction managers thing that sticking some CCTV cameras around the site and putting up rudimentary fencing is enough to project their sites. Whilst CCTV and fencing are certainly important tools for security, they should make up part of a larger security strategy, designed and developed based on the specific security threats that your site faces.

No two construction sites are the same, and a thorough risk assessment should be carried out before the project begins to identify the security measures that need to be put in place. The best way to ensure that you have a watertight security plan is to consult with a professional security firm. They will not only know exactly what to look for during the risk assessment, spotting things that the untrained eye might miss, but will also have all the tolls to put in place the measures that are recommended. This will save you to stress of finding different suppliers for alarms, CCTV, access control gates etc. and ensure that if anything does go wrong you know exactly who to call.

Some of the most important things to consider when conducting a security risk assessment are the entry and exit points of the site, the type of crime that is commonly committed in the area, whether or not the budget allows for 24/7 manned security or remote monitoring is required, and more.

Install perimeter fencing

Protecting your perimeter is the key to keeping your construction site secure. Simply put, if intruders are unable to get inside the boundary fence, or at least unable to do so without detection, the harm that they can potentially cause is limited significantly.

Of course, temporary fencing is unlikely to be able to stop a determined intruder permanently, but it should pose enough of an obstacle that most will be deterred and any attempts to break-in will be detected and swiftly thwarted.

Make sure that the fencing you choose is robust and a minimum of 2 metres tall, making intruders think twice before attempting to climb over it. Install lighting that illuminates the entire fence line, if possible, use motion detection lighting if needed, and choose a fence that has barbed wire or spikes on top as a further deterrent.

CCTV is essential

No modern business security plan is complete without including CCTV in some form or another. There are many different types of CCTV that can be effective for this purpose, from CCTV towers that can be installed without the need for mains electricity to biometric eye scanners that automatically verify the identity of anyone attempting to access your site.

CCTV has a wide range of different uses and benefits on a construction site. It is not only effective for tackling and deterring thieves and vandals, but also for tracking productivity and keeping staff safe. Employees who feel protects and safe in the workplace will be able to better concentrate on the task at hand, their work, and are much more likely to follow your carefully constructed health and safety protocols if they know their actions may be under surveillance.

Is your security system scalable?

Construction projects are ever growing and it is important that your CCTV, and other security systems can grow alongside it.

Installing a CCTV system that meets your security needs now but won’t in the future, is a huge waste of time and money. This is another area in which mobile CCTV towers thrive as they can be deployed and removed at will with as few or as little on site at any one time as required. If you are unsure how many CCTV towers you need, or where they should be located, contact a local security firm who will be happy to assist you.

A comprehensive guide to MicroneedlingA comprehensive guide to Microneedling

Microneedling is an often misunderstood cosmetic treatment that boosts collagen production, thickens the skin, and promotes new healthy skin cell growth.

Of course, it is easy to see why there is a bit of a stigma around microneedling, when you realise that the procedure involves making thousands of tiny holes in the skin using minuscule needles, but it is actually remarkably safe and incredibly effective.

Unlike a simple facial, microneedling creates a lasting boost in your body’s collagen production levels by stimulating a natural healing response through the creation of controlled trauma.

Effectively, the key to microneedling is tricking your body into thinking that there are wounds that require healing without actually doing any harm to the skin. The healing process that is then triggered will create new skin cells and strengthen the skin instead, leaving you with a smooth, clear, and blemish free complexion.

This means that the results of the treatment will actually improve over the days and weeks to come and will be far more long-lasting than applying creams alone.

Microneedling
Microneedling has a whole host of different uses including:
  • Preventing and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reducing the appearance of acne scars
  • Reducing the appearance of stretch marks
  • Evening out skin tone and pigmentation
  • Reducing pore size and allowing nutrients to better penetrate the surface of the skin

Is it painful?

The idea of having thousands of tiny needles penetrating your skin doesn’t sound the most comfortable, but in reality there is very little pain associated with the treatment.

Before your microneedling Glasgow treatment begins, your cosmetic doctor will apply a numbing anaesthetic cream to the surface of the target area meaning that whilst the experience may feel rather unusual, there won’t be any serious pain.

With the holes being made by the pen or roller used to conduct microneedling being so tiny, the discomfort post-procedure is also limited, with most patients reporting nothing more than a bit of redness or sensitivity on the skin, similar to sunburn, for a few days.

If you are particularly worried about your microneedling treatment make sure to talk to your doctor and seek out a clinic that uses a pen rather than a roller to carry out the procedure.

Does microneedling only work on the face?

No! Microneedling can be used anywhere on the body to boost collagen and elastin production and promot skin healing. Yes, the face is the most common place for people to get microneedling, but is can be just as effective for dealing with scars and particularly stretch marks on the stomach, legs, or butt.

How long does microneedling last?

It depends on the results you are looking for. If you are simply looking to help acne scars, or other scarring fade, one or two sessions of microneedling may be all you need to be satisfied.

If you are looking to consistently keep your body’s collagen production high, however, and guard against the premature appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, you will need to return for further treatment every 3-6 months or so.

If you are having treatment for a certain purpose such as major acne scarring or another skin condition, you may be advised to attend the clinic more regularly, around every 1-2 months.

What is the recovery like?

There is very little disruption to the lives of those who have just had a microneedling appointment although it is recommended that you take a few additional precautions with your skin in the days and weeks to come.

Wearing a chemical free sunscreen is a good idea when outside in the weeks to follow and you should avoid chemical heavy skincare products for at least a few days. Make-up can be worn after microneedling but it is recommended by industry experts that you wait for at least 24 hours before applying. If this is not possible, consider delaying your appointment or you risk compromising the effectiveness of the results.

Can I perform my own microneedling?

A quick google will reveal a myriad of home microneedling pens and rollers promising DIY microneedling results at a lower cost than a visit to the clinic.

For the most part, these are safe to use and you may well see some positive results but they are unlikely to be close to as effective as a visit to a professional cosmetic clinic.

For a start, the needles on these products tend to be significantly shorter, and whilst this may reassure you, the controlled trauma they create, and the effectiveness of the natural healing response that is triggered, the key to microneedling, will be reduced.

Furthermore, most microneedling professionals use the microchannels created during the procedure to send certain nutritional serums deep into skin a boost that won’t be available to those attempting DIY care.
